Sarasota County sits right next to Manatee — the intersection capital of Florida — but its own map looks very different. When we grouped every fatal and serious-injury crash by junction, River Rd & US 41 came out as the most dangerous intersection in Sarasota County, with 11 recurring serious crashes. But there is no mega-cluster here: Sarasota has 21 intersections with 5 or more recurring serious crashes, and only 2 reach the 10+ threshold. Statewide, Florida has 98 intersections with 10 or more recurring serious crashes, and just three counties — Pasco, Manatee, and Orange — hold 79% of them. It follows the Tamiami Trail

Sarasota's danger does not pile up in one place the way Manatee's does — it strings out along a single corridor. Nearly every worst junction sits on US 41 (Tamiami Trail), the coastal arterial that runs the length of the county. The two junctions that cross the 10+ threshold, River Road and Jacaranda Boulevard, are both in the fast-growing south county around Venice and Englewood. Closer to the city, Constitution Boulevard and Seminole Drive add more US 41 crossings, while 17th Street & Tuttle Avenue and Gateway Avenue & SR 72 round out the list off the Trail. Sarasota has 21 intersections with 5 or more recurring serious crashes, but the fact that only 2 reach the 10+ mark is what separates it from the Manatee mega-cluster next door. How we rank intersections

We rank by recurring serious crashes — how many separate fatal and serious-injury crashes a junction produced over the 2014–2018 window — not by a single death count. That is deliberate: one horrific crash can happen anywhere, but a junction that produces serious crashes year after year points to something about the road itself, such as signal timing, sight lines, turning movements, or traffic volume.
