SR 50 (Cortez Boulevard) and US 19 are the two arterials that define Hernando County's danger — together they account for 42 of the 138 deaths and well over a third of every serious injury in the county. US 98 is the outlier: it kills at 44.4 deaths per 100 serious crashes, the highest rate in the county, but on just 18 crashes — treat it as a caution flag, not a headline, because SR 50 and US 19 carry far more deaths overall.
