For the biggest county in Florida, Miami-Dade has surprisingly few chronically dangerous intersections. When we grouped every fatal and serious-injury crash by junction, only one intersection in the entire county crossed the 10-recurring-crash threshold — 27th Ave NW & 79th St NW, in the Brownsville/Liberty City area. That is remarkable for a county of nearly three million people. Miami's traffic deaths concentrate on the highways — I-95 alone killed 60 people — rather than at repeat-offender junctions, the opposite of Manatee or Pasco. The twist: the biggest county, the fewest chronic junctions

Miami-Dade is the largest county in Florida, yet it has fewer chronically dangerous intersections than Manatee or Pasco — a fraction of their size. Only one junction, 27th Ave NW & 79th St NW, crosses the 10-recurring-crash line, and the worst cluster sits in northwest Miami-Dade along the NW 79th Street and NW 54th Street grid, with 27th Avenue and 32nd Avenue both flagged. The reason is where Miami's danger lives. Its deaths pile up on the highways — I-95 above all — rather than at signalized junctions, which is the reverse of the Gulf Coast counties. One nuance worth reading honestly: 22nd Ave NW & 54th St NW recorded 3 deaths across just 9 crashes, the deadliest junction by count. When crashes happen in Miami-Dade County

Fatal crashes in the county peak around 7 p.m. on Saturdays, and about 60.4% happen after dark. The deadliest single corridor is I-95 — a highway, not a junction — which is why Miami-Dade's intersection list is short even though the county is huge. Its per-capita intersection death rate, about 11.5 per 100,000, ranks 60th of 67 counties, well below the Florida average and squarely in the state's safest third.
